Meizu's new smartphones are set to go on sale in China on December 8. There is however no word on an India launch yet

Lenovo K6 Power with 4,000mAh battery launched in India, priced at Rs 9,999: Specifications and features

Powered by a large 4,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 430 SoC, the Lenovo K6 Power takes on the popular budget smartphone Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime.

Lenovo is expanding its budget smartphone portfolio with the new K6 Power smartphone. Priced at Rs 9,999, the smartphone goes on open sale at 12PM on December 6 exclusively via Flipkart. The Lenovo K6 Power is part of the new K6 series that was unveiled at IFA earlier this year. The other two K6 series phones are the Lenovo K6 and Lenovo K6 Note. One of the highlights of the Lenovo K6 Power, as the name of the device indicates, is the large 4,000mAh battery.

With the large battery along with Snapdragon 430 processor onboard, the Lenovo K6 Power will face competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 3s and Redmi 3s Prime, with all of these budget smartphones armed with almost same battery size and same processor. Interestingly, prior to the K6 Power, Lenovo-owned Motorola launched the budget Moto E3 Power smartphone, which too focused on big battery life, and competed against the Xiaomi Redmi 3s and Redmi 3s Prime

After the uproar that Ringing Bells created with its Rs. 251 smartphone, there is another company that has now cropped up to compete with it. An unheard-of company called ChampOne has listed a smartphone called ChampOne C1 on its website, with a price tag of Rs. 7,999. The company is launching the smartphone at Rs. 501 in its first flash sale on September 2 - for which registrations are now open. Well, sort of.

The website looks shabby at best, and the registration button is inactive. The company has put out a disclaimer citing "payment gateway" difficulties, and says that registrations won't work for the next 24 hours. However, it says that the smartphone will be sold through the 'Cash On Delivery Option' so we don't see why they even need a payment gateway. Some reports point to a registration fee, which in itself seems fishy.

The Jodhpur-based company has listed a toll free number, and two other phone support numbers. All our calls went unanswered, while one of the numbers was switched off. ChampOne appears to be one of the numerous startups that have recently started sprouting up in India, looking to make headlines by launching smartphones at incredible prices. The first amongst the spate of firms was Ringing Bells, and while the company is finally delivering its first smartphones, other firms appear to have fizzled out before launch. We advise all readers to stay away from deals that seem too good to be true from brand new companies without a service history or a reputation to lose.

In any case, the ChampOne C1 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports dual-SIM. It features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display, and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. It offers 16GB of inbuilt storage. Optics include an 8-megapixel back camera, and a 5-megapixel front snapper. There's a 2500mAh battery packed inside, and connectivity options include 4G LTE support. It will be made available in White, Silver, and Gold colour options.

Of course, the glitching website reminds us of the horrible inefficiency by Ringing Bells when it first announced its smartphone. The company hadn't 'anticipated the demand' for its. Rs 251 smartphone, and is still struggling to meet demands. The company first claimed that it was backed by the government and was part of the Make in India campaign, only to retrace its footsteps and mention that it was importing assembled smartphones, and has asked the government for support. The company was also accused of defrauding its customer service partner by refusing to pay dues. After too many delays, the company even tried to make amends by saying that it will refund the money of first phase's 30,000 Freedom 251 customers - and will accept cash upon delivery.

Another company that made headlines recently for what were found to be fraudulent tactics was mPhone, which was all set to announce its smartphone portfoliio in the country. However, those plans came to a grinding halt, after the co-founders were arrested at the launch venue for alleged fraudulent activities. The company was set to launch six smartphones in the country ranging from Rs. 11,999 to Rs. 39,999, but we haven't heard of anything post their arrest.

Also, let's not forget the Docoss X1 launched by a Jaipur-based company for Rs. 888. Their website itself was extremely fishy, with many technical goof-ups. Their customer care support also proved to be very vague. The smartphone was to begin shipping in May, but it still hasn't managed to do that yet. The website currently mentions that the smartphone will be shipped soon.

Apple has sent out media invitations for a special event in San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on Wednesday, September 7. Apple is widely expected to unveil the next generation iPhone and Apple Watch models at the event.

As with all Apple launches, there have been innumerable leaks in the months leading up the event. Surprisingly, the most debated detail is the name. While almost all leaks agree that Apple will not be making major upgrades to lineup this year, some reports indicate Apple won't call it the iPhone 7 as per its regular tick-tock cycle nomenclature.

Instead, to emphasise the minimal upgrades in this year's offering, Apple is rumoured to call the next iPhone the iPhone 6SE, though the prominent placement of '7th' on the invite should put the rumours to bed. Apple has traditionally employed a single iPhone version number across two years, adding an 's' to mark an iterative improvement in the second, such as the iPhone 6s with respect to the iPhone 6. The company with the iPhone 6 in 2014 also started introducing two models a generation, with one catering to small screen aficionados, and the other 'Plus' variant providing a phablet-style large display. It is expected to do so this year as well.

Apart from the confusion surrounding the name, most other rumours are rather plausible. The next iPhone is expected to feature camera improvements in both models, with the smaller 4.7-inch offering tipped to get optical image stabilisation, and the larger 5.5-inch offering tipped to sport a dual camera setup. The Cupertino giant is expected to use a new Apple A10 SoC to power both devices, with the company also rumoured to bump up the memory alongside to 3GB of RAM.

Apple is also anticipated to bump up the base storage variant from 16GB to 32GB. Alongside the upgraded base storage rumour, the company is expected to boost the storage capacity of the top-end variant from 128GB to 256GB. The 64GB variant is also anticipated to be replaced by the 128GB variant - thus, we can expect Apple to release its next-generation iPhone models in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage variants.

Another rumour that is seeing fewer and fewer contradictory reports as time passes, is the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack on the next iPhone models. Apple is speculated to have made the decision to do away with the current standard for audio connectivity for three reasons - to ensure the next model is very slim; to ensure the next model is waterproof (thus has minimal, easy-to-protect ports); and to give users better audio quality through the Lightning port instead. The Lightning port can also power active noise cancellation in headphones that offer it. The company is variously also rumoured to include a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter in the box, or Lightning-power EarPods instead. The removal of the jack may see the addition of dual-speaker grilles as well.

Apple is also rumoured to boost the display resolution of its next iPhone models. The current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus sport resolutions of 750x1334 pixels and 1080x1920 pixels currently, while the corresponding iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to sport resolutions of 1080x1920 pixels and 1440x2560 pixels respectively. Apple is also tipped to include a Space Black variant this time around, though a Space Blue variant was also rumoured alongside the removal of the Space Grey colour option.

Finally, Apple is expected to make the next iPhone available in its stores in the US from September 16, with carrier availability tipped for September 23.

Since the last one month, Lenovo has been aggressively teasing the highly-anticipated K4 Note phablet, which is all set to launch tomorrow in New Delhi. In the run up to the event, Lenovo has revealed some of its key specifications and features in bits and pieces.

Last year, Lenovo raised the bar with its K3 Note, which redefined the lower mid-range space. It was one of the first smartphones under Rs 10,000 to sport a 5.5-inch full HD display, an octa-core processor and more. For the K4 Note, the expectations are pretty high, especially considering the way Lenovo has been teasing the smartphone. Let’s take a quick look at top seven features of the K4 Note.

  Metal body: The K3 Note was equipped with best in line hardware at its price point, but it sported a plastic body. The very first teaser of the K4 Note showed off metallic edges and usual power and volume buttons on the right. If priced right, metallic design could be one of the differentiating factor of the K4 Note.

A few days back, we learned that Huawei is working on its flagship P9 smartphone. While the smartphone is likely to launch in March, the latest buzz suggests the P9 would feature 6GB RAM and Huawei could unveil it tomorrow at its CES 2016 press conference.
The Huawei P9 is expected to sport a dual-camera setup with dual-tone LED flash and laser autofocus. About other specifications, the P9 could feature a 5.2-inch WQHD AMOLED display running at a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. It is likely to be powered by Huawei’s homebrew Kirin 950 octa-core SoC paired with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.

Rumors around this year’s iPhone 7 are slowly picking up pace. The latest leaks show alleged design renders of the upcoming iPhone as well as more details about its battery and other features. According to one leak, Apple could double the internal storage of the iPhone 7 to a whopping 256GB! 

The photos leaked by a Chinese supplier show an iPhone that takes design cues from the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 5s, GizmoChina reports. On the front is a 2.5D curved glass panel that flows into the metal frame on the sides. At the bottom are the 3.5mm audio jack (contradictory to what has been reported recently), a Lightning port and a single set of speakers. Another alleged photo also shows the iPhone 7 being charged wirelessly.

The supplier has also shared a photo that shows the innards of the iPhone 7. Towards the top you can see the A10 processor, which is in line with recent reports. Also seen in a large battery that brings us to a report by MyDrivers, which claims that the iPhone 7 Plus (larger variant) will boast a bigger 3,100mAh battery and 256GB internal storage.

To put these into perspective, the current iPhones come in three storage variants – 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. As for the battery, the iPhone 6s features a 2,750mAh unit, while the iPhone 6s Plus features a 2,915mAh unit. Putting in a bigger battery could very well sort one of the biggest issues with the current-generation iPhones – the battery life. While the jury is still out on why Apple refuses to phase out the 16GB storage base variant, a 256GB variant will nonetheless be welcome considering the inclusion of new features like Live Photos and 4K video recording among others on the current-gen iPhones.

Despite how real the iPhone 7 design looks in the above photos, they are after all leaked by a Chinese supplier and should be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt. Needless to say, use the same amount of caution with the leaks about the battery and storage capacity.

Lenovo is all set to launch the K4 Note phablet in India on January 5 but that isn’t stopping the company from revealing details about what it calls is the “killer note.” In its latest tease, Lenovo has revealed that the K4 Note will feature front facing stereo speaker.
With just two days to go for the launch, Lenovo has put up yet another teaser on Twitter that says - “When is audio more than just a sum of its decibel levels? Take centre-stage with the K4 Note. #KillerNote2016” The accompanying video briefly hints at twin speakers above and below the display, just like what we have earlier seen in HTC‘s BoomSound speakers.
Earlier, the company had confirmed that the smartohone will feature a fingerprint scanner and a NFC chip.

From what we know so far, the Lenovo K4 Note will feature a NFC chip, fingerprint scanner and 3GB of RAM. Furthermore, it will also feature 32GB of internal memory, which is double of what the K3 Note had, as well as a microSD card slot. It is also expected to feature a metal body.
At the moment, we don’t yet have any information about the display, though Lenovo had a vague teaser about the display as well. The K4 Note is likely to rock a 1080p display. There is no word on the processor so far.
In comparison, the Lenovo K3 Note, which is priced at Rs 9,999, features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal memory along with microSD card slot. It also featured a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 3,000mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, and 4G support.

The K4 Note is all set to be launched on January 5 in India, and in the run up Lenovo continues to tease different aspects of the phablet. The latest teaser on Twitter hints at what the company calls a ‘killer display’.
Lenovo doesn’t exactly reveal what kind of display the K4 Note might boast, and instead says – ‘When is a display more than just a sum of its pixels? Get ready to thrill your senses with the K4 Note #KillerNote2016’. A video embedded in the tweet shows a series of clips playing on the phablet (see embedded tweet below).
It is difficult to say at the moment what makes it a killer display, but this year’s K3 Note featured a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display. At the time of launch, it also held the crown of the most affordable smartphone in India to boast a 1080p display.
Lenovo K4 Note specifications and features: The K4 Note is expected to feature a metal body, 3GB of RAM, a fingerprint scanner and a NFC chip as well. If Lenovo can price the K4 Note below Rs 10,000, it would turn out to be the phablet to look out for in the affordable segment.

YU Yutopia India launch delayed to December 17: Specifications, features

Micromax-backed YU yesterday announced that it would be launching the Yutopia on December 7. But CEO Rahul Sharma has taken to Twitter to reveal a delay in the launch, which will now take place on December 17.
Sharma says that the company is planning ‘something special with Yutopia’, which is the reason for the delay. Unsurprisingly, Sharma or YU didn’t give out any indications about what this ‘something special’ will be.
BGR India had exclusively revealed YU’s plans to launch the Yutopia in September. Since then the company has been teasing different features and aspects of the forthcoming smartphone. The Yutopia is also set to become the first handset in YU’s portfolio to break the Rs 10,000 price barrier.
YU Yutopia specifications and features: A mixture of leaks and teasers has given us a fair idea of what to expect from the Yutopia. It is likely to feature a 5.2-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, and microSD card slot.

Micromax Canvas Amaze with 2GB of RAM launched, priced at Rs 7,999: Specifications, features

 

Micromax has quietly launched a new budget smartphone called the Canvas Amaze. It is listed on the company’s website, and is also available online with a price tag of Rs 7,999.
One of the talking points of the smartphone is the 2GB of RAM. It joins the likes of the Meizu m2, and the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime to come with 2GB of RAM under Rs 10,000.
Micromax Canvas Amaze specifications and features: The smartphone flaunts a 5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6580 quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Also on offer is 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.
The smartphone also features a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5-megapixel selfie camera, and a 2,000mAh battery that the company claims is good enough for up to seven hours of talktime and up to 260 hours on standby mode. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, and on the software front, it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Micromax has also preloaded apps like Hotstar, Clean Master, Saavn, and Scandid.

Micromax is also hosting an event later this month on November 18 when it plans to launch a new smartphone. Details are scarce at the moment, except a tagline – ‘Don’t Pause! Let’s #FastForwardLife’.

Xiaomi is holding a big event in China today, where it is most likely unveiling the Mi 5. Alongside the Mi 5, the company is also expected to unveil the Mi 5 Plus smartphone as well. The two smartphones are pegged to be priced starting 2,399 Yuan (Rs 24,500 approximately) and 3,000 Yuan (Rs 30,700 approximately) respectively.
The Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus have been anticipated since quite a while, and therefore leaks surrounding them have been generous. According to previous rumors, the Mi 5 will come with a 5.2-inch 2K LCD display and a Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB RAM. It will come in 16/64GB variants, and integrate a fingerprint scanner in the home button.
On the camera front, it is said to sport a 16-megapixel rear camera along with a 13-megpixel front-facing camera. The Mi 5 will run on the company’s new MIUI 7 (most likely based on Android 5.1 Lollipop), and pack a 3,000mAh battery which will have fast charging abilities. It will charge up to 30 percent in five minutes and up to 100 percent in 40 minutes.
In the online invitation, the company teased a super-thin profile of the Mi 5 with curved corners and a metal frame. Yesterday, Xiaomi released a teaser on Facebook showing what seemed like a wireless charger attached to a micro-USB port. It is one of the clearest signs that the Mi 5 will be the first smartphone in the company’s lineup to boast wireless charging capabilities. Wireless charging would be a significant highlight for Xiaomi, as it is something Samsung has used in its battle against the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Coming to the Mi 5 Plus, it is expected to feature a bigger 5.7-inch 2K display along with a full-metal body, Snapdragon 820 processor, 23-megapixel rear camera, 12-megapixel front camera, and a 3,500mAh battery. Like the Mi 5, this variant too is expected to feature a fingerprint scanner.
