Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will kickstart his India visit today. First on the agenda is a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also a big proponent of using social media for reaching out to people. Zuckerberg is the third high profile technology company CEO to visit India in the last fortnight after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

India is Facebook’s fastest growing markets and the largest market outside of the United States. Facebook has over 110 million monthly active users in India, majority of whom access the social networking site on their mobile phones.

Zuckerberg’s India visit comes just over three months after Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg visited the country and met Prime Minister Modi and Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Zuckerberg too is expected to meet Prasad later today.

Earlier, Prasad had requested Facebook to add support for more Indian languages. Meanwhile, Sandberg had stated that the company was willing to work in the areas of education, e-governance and other basic service.

Zuckerberg is expected to announce Facebook’s support in Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign. Apart from this, he is also expected to make an announcement related toInternet.org campaign to make Internet more affordable in partnership with some cellular operators. Facebook recently also joined COAI, a body of cellular operators in the country.
