Apple denies plans to shut down Beats Music, may however rebrand it in future: Report

In the early hours of Tuesday morning a TechCrunch report surfaced online claiming Apple was planning to shut Beats Music less than four months of acquiring it for $3 billion. In a statement to Re/code however, Apple has declined it has any such plans.
Beats Music is a subscription-based service, wherein users can listen to as much music as they want for $10 a month. But even Apple’s acquisition hasn’t helped the service get enough traction, with the service only boasting a few hundred thousand subscribers. This could be a reason why Apple could have been looking at shutting down the service.
But as mentioned above, that is not the case. Apple’s PR Tom Neumayr told Re/code’s Peter Kafka that “the TechCrunch story is not true.” Kafka further cites a couple of sources who claim that Apple could modify or rebrand Beats Music in the future. In other words, the Beats Music service could be rolled into iTunes.
Apple bought Beats Electronics back in May this year for a whopping $3 billion. Earlier this month, Tim Cook talked about the reason behind the acquisition with Charlie Rose. Cook revealed how “the strength of Beats’ radio subscription service (among a few other things) is something that he completely admires.” With the acquisition, Apple also wants to help the Brand get traction outside the US.
